Marathon Station Assignments
Operators at Miles are our eyes and ears on the marathon course. Spread throughout
- the course, these operators keep us up to date on the location of the lead runners, keep a watch on everything that happens on the course, and serve as a point of contact for runners and spectators in distress.
Aid Stations are located along the course at intervals of 1-2 miles. Radio
- operators at these locations are critical to ensuring they have the equipment they need and to keeping race officials informed about their activities.
Vehicles include various buses and vans responsible for moving people and
- equipment to where they need to be, including providing transportation back to the finish area for runners who have dropped out early. Our operators are needed to provide these vehicles with their assignments and report on their locations and activities.
Hams on bicycles are needed to follow the pack, especially during the wheelchair events.
Shadows are needed for a large number of race officials. These are the people who
- have all of the answers to questions and problems that may arise during the race, and they are also the ones making decisions using the information we communicate.
Net Control is where it all comes together. A small group of dedicated operators,
- chosen for their experience and ability to operate under fire, manage our four separate nets and keep everything running smoothly.
